HRS 7158 b, Carboniferous, coal measures, Radcliffe, Carr Brook exposure, slumping 1969

Adjacent to the fault in the Carboniferous coal measure sandstone on the south side of Carr Brook east of Brookbottom Farm is this excellent exposure of slumping.
Exposure above the Yard Mine.
The sand making up the sandstone was in a wet-loaded state and appears to have been deposited at an angle in estuarine or deeper conditions.
The slope of loaded sand then slipped forming these characteristic rounded features. Subsequent sand deposition also slipped (secondary slip-plane), before eventually the slope stabilised and a more uniform layer of sand was deposited. KH
