HRS 713 Little Lever, Church Street road collapse 1st Jan 1976

A large hole appeared in Church Street, Little Lever threatening to damage nearby houses. I am indebted to a lady who recently contacted me with a full account of what happened. I have paraphrased the account below the full version can be read in the Comments section.

'The wall was my Grandparent's house. My grandparents, were watching television at about 10.30pm when there was a knock on the door. It was one of their neighbours he had senn a large hole in the road. The police were called and the people in the surrounding houses were evacuated to the Labour Club. They lost lots of belongings including their false teeth, although some things were rescued when the end wall of the house was pulled off and a bulldozer picked thing up.

They got compensation off the coal board (as it was due to collapsed mines) they were able to buy a nice bungalow".
