It was the junction between the upper summit level of the canal Bury - Bolton, and the lower section of canal to Salford and the River Irwell. <br/>The lower section of the MBBC was reached down a series of locks, known as Prestolee Locks. On the Bolton side of junction on the upper section were the canal workshops.</p>]]></description>
